Bean Bag Toss

Children are given three bean bags to toss per game. bean bags through the tiny holes

Containers to catch the bean bags
Fishing Booth Department of Conservation might be able to host this

1. Short Pole with about 1 yard of string attached to the pole with a clothespin at the end to clip on the prize.
2.  A type of screen (blue sheet, wood frame etc) that children will toss their "hooks" over to "fish".
3.  Carnival Prizes - consolation, and 2 -3 others.  Fish or ocean themed carnival prizes are most fun for this booth!

How to Play:
Children choose a fishing pole and swing the "hook" over the screen.
Volunteers hidden behind the screen clip on a prize and then give the line a few tugs.
Children "reel in" their prize by pulling their line back over the screen.
Helpful Hint: Make sure their poles and lines are not too long - they only need to be 2 - 3 feet in length.  Practice with a few children of different ages to see what works best.
Safety: This is a booth that young children enjoy as well - Use a special colored and labeled pole for the toddlers.  Be sure you have some prizes safe for the little folks - individually packaged fish crackers are perfect for toddlers!

"What a Catch" for your next Carnival Fishing Booth!!!

Leap Frog

Frogs tossed onto lily pads

Department of Conservation might be able to host this

Need pool

Need sty foam lily pads

BAD Green Alligator

How to Play:
Before the carnival, set up a "pond" with several fake Lilly pads and a pretend alligator. Players are given 3 frogs to try to land on as many "Lilly pads" as possible.  Every time a frog lands on a Lilly pad it counts as a point.  Every time a frog lands on the alligator it subtracts a point.  Children get a carnival prize based on how many total points they have after all their bean bag frogs have "leaped."

Note: handmade "frog launchers" that children hit with a light-weight mallet to make the frogs leap through the air to try to land on a lily pad.  that could be hit with such force the flying frog could hurt a young child.

Duck Pond  Wading pool with a few inches of water
Floating Ducks (with numbers 1, 2, or 3 on the bottom) Hint: If you have 2 dozen ducks – ten are marked with "1", eight are marked with "2" and six are marked with "3"
Small, Medium and Large Carnival Prizes – one for each number

How to Play:
Children pick a duck and look for the number on the bottom.
Children win the prize that corresponds to the number on the duck.
Hint – have the prizes displayed to show what prize is won with each number!
Safety Note: This is another favorite booth for preschoolers.  Have some toys that are considered "safer" for young children such as mini beach balls, sand molds or even small packages of fish crackers that you can have on hand to pass to younger children.

Petting Zoo Hire a local company to bring in their gentle animals for the children to pet.
Plan an area that is shaded or partially shaded – this is best for the animals and the children
Be sure the petting zoo owner has access to water and shade for the animals.
Post signs that say "No Food Allowed In Petting Zoo" – sweet like cotton candy can make animals aggressive -- see the note below.
This booth may just be a break even booth if it is not donated – be sure to charge at least .75 cents or even one dollar to pet the animals.
Also, don't forget to verify that the petting zoo has current business insurance - ask for the phone number to the insurance company to make sure their coverage is up to date. Also, check references to make sure other schools or local events were happy with their service! Find out what action is taken if an animal is aggressive or just not feeling well.
Sticky Darts/Balls

Sticky Darts/balls –stick to just about anything!  They are reusable. Large Poster Board designed how you like – either as a large dart board, a themed design , or with pictures of An Easel or a way to hang up the board – if inside – it can go against a wall.
Tape to mark a spot for different age children to stand to throw sticky darts
Prizes – consolation, Bulls Eye prize and others (depending how you designed your board)

How to Play:
Children are given three sticky darts to throw at the board.
If they stick their dart other Bull’s Eye – they receive a top prize.  If they hit the board but not the Bulls Eye – they receive the middle prize. The most common prize will be the middle prize – be sure to have enough!

art pavilion

Art Exhibit

Provide an area where kids can be creative:

Have a student art show along with your carnival. If you like, invite local art experts  to award ribbons or prizes by grade level.

Balloon Animals make balloon animals. You can charge one ticket or just give them away for fun.
Hair  SALON The colored hair spray booth is always very busy at our carnival. The kids love to get streaks of purple, green, etc. Just be careful on very blond or colored hair, it may not wash out very well!
Three Guess Charge a fee to guess

Fill a large clear jar with jelly beans, buttons, or other small colorful objects. Players write their guess as to how many objects are in the jar on a slip of paper. At the end of the carnival or at a set time, announce the winner and award a large prize.

lucky key Player selects a key from a large pile of keys and tries to unlock the "treasure" chest. Only a few keys will open the lock and get a prize
pie throwing Try to find some good sports who will act as  targets for shaving cream pies.
pony rides insurance issues
Quarter drop Set up an aquarium with a small container on the bottom

Fill the aquarium with water and add decorations if desired. The player drops a quarter or other small object

Pet talent show Pet talent show would be a fun
TIC TAC Toe This can be played with bean bags or plastic balls. For the bean bag version, just mark out the lines on the floor or a mat. Three in a row wins!
Guess the Weight Have lots of different objects (a brick, half a bottle of water, a tape recorder, a big book, etc.) and let people guess the weight of each object. Then weigh each object and whoever got closest to the real weight wins a prize.
Mouse Holes Take a cardboard box and cut three holes on one side of it (to resemble mouse holes - make sure a golf ball can make it into the smallest hole). Make the holes three different sizes. Then let the kids roll golf balls and try and make it into the holes. Give different points for different holes.
Little Squirts Shooting Gallery Line up ping-pong (or plastic golf) balls on the tops of different sized drink bottles. Have several water guns pre-filled and a bucket of water or a water hose handy for re-filling them. Test shoot your guns and draw a line for the kids to stand behind (farther back for older kids). Let them try to "shoot" the balls off of the bottles. This works great and is a lot of fun!
Water Balloon Walk Give 2 players a spoon with a water balloon on it. Have them race a certain distance without dropping their balloon. If they do, have them start over with a new balloon. Whoever finishes successfully first wins.
Rescue The Animal Place a few stuffed animals inside a cage and lock the cage. Set a few keys beside the cage and have kids try to open the cage by picking 3 keys and giving it a try. The kid who opens the lock gets one of the stuffed animals.
Pole Ring Toss This is a fun booth game for kids. Start by having a pole about 1-foot tall. Have 3 circle toss rings. Each person tries to get all three rings on the pole each time they throw. Make sure each person is at least 3 ft away from the pole.
Sponge toss

Sponge Bob Square pants

A volunteer stands behind a backboard with only their face showing through a hole. The player gets three tries to hit them in the face with a wet sponge. Put a plastic tarp in front of the backboard to keep the sponges clean. Provide goggles and maybe a poncho to your brave volunteer. You can even have two lines, one to throw sponges and one to be the target
Tug of War: all this takes is a big length of rope – might even be available from the PE department of the school. Moms vs. Dads, Brothers vs. Sisters, 4th grade vs. 5th grade, boys vs. girls are all great ways to drum up carnival enthusiasm
Guess what?: Have strange substances in containers and participants have to guess what it is either by smell, touch or sound. (Make sure to have allergy information on ingredients at hand.)
Carnival passports Each kid gets a passport to be stamped at each activity booth – six or more stamps per card. Once the passport is filled it can be entered into a drawing to win a bigger door prize – another way to drum up more booth ticket sales!
A tent, booth or other space that provides a little privacy
A small table covered in bright cloth
Two chairs
A lamp with a dim light bulb or scarf over the shade
A tape or CD player and eerie music
A "gypsy" or "fortune teller" costume, such as bright flowing clothing, a turban, bandanas, scarves and lots of jingling jewelry
A cup and saucer with tea leaves, playing cards, or a crystal ball
Fortunes – a list of ideas for fortunes that predict a future event

Set up and play:
Play eerie music in the background to set an atmosphere of mystery.
Have the fortune-teller read palms, read tea leaves, or read the future in playing cards or a crystal ball.
Be sure to tell only good or silly fortunes – no disasters!

You’ll need:
Three large flowerpots
Three tennis balls
Duct tape or sidewalk chalk

Set up and play:
Line up the pots one behind the other with several inches in between each pot.
Mark a line on the ground about 10 feet from the closest pot using duct tape or sidewalk chalk.
Players try to bounce the three balls so they land and stay in a pot. One or two in a pot (you decide) wins a prize.

You’ll need:
A table (optional)
Ten or more old plates (plastic are best)
The same number of empty soda cans, rinsed out
Coins or poker chips
Duct tape or sidewalk chalk

Set up and play:
Put some sand or small rocks in the soda cans so they don’t tip over. Place a plate on top of each can.
Place the plates in rows on the table or the ground.
Mark a line on the ground about six feet from the table using duct tape or sidewalk chalk.
Give each player three coins or poker chips.
Players stand behind the line and throw coins onto the plate.
If at least one of three coins lands and stays on a plate, the player wins a prize.

You’ll need:
Five empty tin cans, washed, lids and labels removed
Popsicle sticks
Construction paper
Tempera paint and brushes
Duct tape or sidewalk chalk
Three balls that will fit inside the cans

Set up and play:
Decorate the cans with paper and/or paint.
Place the cans on their sides in a row on the ground with the open end toward the player.
Push a Popsicle stick partway into the ground on either side of each can to prevent rolling.
Mark a line on the ground about 10 feet in front of the cans using duct tape or sidewalk chalk.
Players stand behind the line and roll the three balls into the cans. One or two balls (you decide) in a can wins a prize!

Finger Nail Painting Required: Nail polish, cotton swabs, nail polish remover Set up a table to paint fingernails. Purchase cotton swabs, nail polish and nail polish remover (maybe from the dollar store). Charge a fee for those that would like to have their fingernails done. Don't forget to pick up white nail polish for those that

would like French tipped nails.
Go To Jail Required: A room, jail made out of something, helpers and warrants
Have a room that you can be set up as a jail. You'll need a sheriff and maybe a deputy to mind the jail while the sheriff goes off to arrest someone. You can make the jail out of cardboard boxes, or wood with chicken wire, just something easy to take down and store if you wish. Carnival goers can pay to issue a warrant for someone's arrest. This may involve that person also going with the sheriff to point out the person that is suppose to be sent to jail. Once that person is put into the jail, they have to serve so many minutes in jail or you can give them the option of bailing themselves out. You can even issue them prison clothes to wear.

Suggestions from others

vets might be available too for some topics to discuss

DUNK your favorite vet or the mayor too

City presence for a license booth would be smart.

There is discussion for a dog park

How about including the park board?

Would you also consider some of the more common drug companies, like the ones with HW preventatives and topical to attend?

How about a vaccine rep from Sherling Plough or another company too so they can make the public aware of the importance of vaccines?

this could be a really educational event as well as fun.

Maybe even include local artists who do animal art.

Even jewelry makers with animal ties like the children in the area that have been making jewelry for fundraising.

Maybe even find some ways to make it really big for the children too.

There could be food venders, like the barbeque guy who helps out for area fundraisers (Belita from Safe Harbor knows him).  Anyone make funnel cakes?

educational stuff included as well as fun part of it all.

The lady who makes dog food in the jar?
